SWIFT CURRENT SEASON 2 - APRIL 2020
GOVERNMENT UPDATES (Updated Feb 26th)
As of now, competitive game play in all team sports is paused and has been since November 26th; We hope to be eligible to return to gameplay by sometime in May.
Typically, the Government of Saskatchewan provides updates to the re-open plan on the 19th of each month, we will update our sites once new announcements are made.
February 19th UPDATE: Some positive news, which is trending in the right direction for the upcoming spring season. For the first time in three months an adjustment had been made to team sports.
Prior to this announcement, there has not been any adjustments to team sports (ie: ice hockey).
Timeline and Restrictions
July 15th to October 25th: Ball Hockey was eligible to play games. Games were played with a four team bubble of 50 players, equating to 4 team divisions. No masks were required by players.
October 26th to Feb 18th: Sports had suspended game play and groups have only been limited to one group of 8 players on the ice at one time in a practice setting and social distancing.
February 19th: The Government of Saskatchewan adjusted the Sports and Activities Guidelines in Re-Open Saskatchewan Plan for ice surfaces.
There can now be two or three groups of players of eight on the ice (24 players and 6 coaches), plus two instructors per group (U9 and higher) and four instructors (U7 and below) if the groups are physically distanced by five meters.
- All players and Instructors must still wear masks and be physically distanced within their individual groups as well.
As a practical example: you could have groups of eight players in either end below the bluelines and a third group in the neutral zone between the blue lines.
This is not what is required for gameplay, within our leagues. However, it is a very positive step in the right direction to hopefully be playing by May.
The next announcement by the Saskatchewan Government is scheduled for March 19th, we will provide further updates at this time
